Overview

A leading specialist subcontractor is seeking a Trainee / Assistant Estimator to join their commercial team. This is an entry-level role suitable for candidates from any background with strong numeracy, analytical skills, and the motivation to build a career in estimating. Full training and support, including the option of university sponsorship if required, will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of tenders, cost plans and supporting documents

• Request and compare subcontractor quotations

• Carry out basic take-offs and measurement from drawings

• Support cost databases, reports, and document control

• Liaise with commercial, design, and site teams

• Learn to assess risks, variations, and opportunities

• Strong numeracy and attention to detail

• Good IT skills (Excel, Word)

• Clear communication and organisational skills

• Enthusiastic, willing to learn, able to work to deadlines

• Construction knowledge or exposure (desirable, not essential)

• Salary up to £30,000

• Full training and mentoring from senior estimators

• Potential university or professional qualification sponsorship
