About the Role

The ideal candidate will be a commercially minded preconstruction professional with strong knowledge of plumbing construction and the ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships.

This person should be comfortable operating at the intersection of estimating, preconstruction, sales, and client management.

Key Requirements

  • Experience in commercial plumbing estimating, preconstruction, project management, business development, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of commercial plumbing systems and construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Strong estimating and scope-development skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Strong negotiation and commercial awareness.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify project risks early.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with GCs, owners, engineers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
  • A sales-oriented mindset, with the ability to develop opportunities, maintain a pipeline, follow up consistently, and help convert bids into awarded work.
  • Ability to balance competitiveness with profitability when developing project pricing.

 

About the Candidate

The Plumbing Preconstruction Manager will be responsible for leading the preconstruction process across a range of commercial and industrial plumbing projects.

This is a key position within the business, responsible for taking projects from initial opportunity and bid qualification through estimating, proposal, negotiation, and award, while ensuring each opportunity is commercially viable and positioned for successful execution.

The role will work closely with general contractors, owners, engineers, vendors, suppliers, and internal operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preconstruction and estimating process for commercial plumbing projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and project requirements.
  • Develop accurate and competitive estimates, scopes of work, and proposals.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, design conflicts, constructability issues, and potential project risks.
  • Coordinate material, labor, equipment, and vendor/subcontractor pricing.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, scope reviews, and client meetings.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, owners, facility managers, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple bids and opportunities simultaneously while maintaining deadlines and accuracy.
  • Prepare and present proposals, clarifications, qualifications, and pricing to clients.
  • Negotiate scope and pricing while protecting company margins.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up throughout the bid and sales cycle.
  • Track upcoming opportunities and contribute to the company's overall business development strategy.
  • Support the transition from awarded project through project turnover to operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, customer communication, and bid activity.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen existing customer relationships and develop new commercial accounts.
