About the Client

My client is a premier, Top-ranking ENR General Contractor recognized for delivering complex, high-profile commercial, institutional, and industrial projects across the nation. We thrive on innovation, engineering excellence, and a collaborative culture.

As they continue to scale our portfolio of mega-projects, they are seeking a driven MEP Project Engineer to bridge the gap between complex building systems design and field execution.

About the Role

Technical Coordination & Engineering

  • BIM & VDC Coordination:  Lead or actively participate in the 3D BIM coordination process. Identify, track, and resolve spatial clashes between MEP systems and structural/architectural elements before field installation.
  • Constructability Reviews:  Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings for contract compliance, cross-trade compatibility, and constructability.
  • Submittals & RFIs:  Manage the MEP submittal registry. Review and process subcontractor shop drawings, product data, and samples. Draft, track, and resolve Requests for Information (RFIs) with design engineers.

Project Management Support

  • Scheduling & Sequencing:  Assist the scheduling team in developing detailed MEP logic ties, tracking equipment manufacturing lead times, and monitoring field installation milestones.
  • Procurement Tracking:  Maintain the MEP Long-Lead Equipment log to ensure critical components (e.g., chillers, switchgear, air handling units) arrive on-site to match the project schedule.
  • Change Management:  Assist in reviewing subcontractor change order requests by validating labor impacts and material quantities.

Field Supervision & Quality Assurance

  • Quality Control (QA/QC):  Conduct regular field walks to ensure MEP installations match approved shop drawings, submittals, and local building codes.
  • Commissioning (Cx) Support:  Assist in the execution of the project commissioning plan. Coordinate factory testing, equipment startup, testing and balancing (TAB), and final functional performance testing.
  • Safety Adherence:  Collaborate with Safety Managers to ensure MEP subcontractors strictly adhere to OSHA guidelines and company safety protocols (e.g., Lockout/Tagout procedures).

About the Candidate

Qualifications
  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related technical field.
  • Experience:  2–5 years of commercial construction experience, specifically focused on MEP systems, preferably with an ENR Top 100 General Contractor or a major mechanical/electrical subcontractor.

Required Skills Technical Proficiency:
  • Hands-on experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, PMWeb, or Newforma).
  • Familiarity with BIM/VDC tools (Navisworks Manage, Revit, or Bluebeam Revu).
  • Understanding of scheduling software (Primavera P6 or ASTA Powerproject) is a plus.

Preferred Skills
  • Certifications (Preferred but not required): LEED Green Associate/AP, FE/EIT certification, or OSHA 30-Hour.
