About the Client

We are representing a specialist engineering and commissioning consultancy operating within the rapidly expanding mission-critical and data center construction market.

Our client supports complex, high-value infrastructure developments, delivering mechanical and electrical commissioning, integrated systems testing, quality assurance and operational readiness services.

Working alongside major developers, contractors and engineering partners, the business plays a critical role in ensuring mission-critical facilities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.

Due to continued growth and increasing project demand, they are looking to appoint an experienced Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support large-scale data center developments across the United States.

This opportunity offers the chance to take technical ownership of complex commissioning packages, lead testing activities and contribute to the development of high-performing commissioning teams.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced mechanical commissioning professional with a strong technical background in mission-critical infrastructure, ideally within hyperscale or large colocation data centers.

Essential Experience:

  • Strong understanding of chilled water, direct expansion (DX), evaporative cooling and liquid cooling systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, valves, heat exchangers and heat rejection equipment.
  • Experience delivering Pre-Functional Checks (PFCs), Functional Performance Testing (FPT) and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Ability to validate mechanical sequences of operation, redundancy configurations and system failure scenarios.
  • Experience coordinating with electrical, controls, OEM and construction teams.
  • Strong technical leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Willingness to travel nationally for project assignments.

Desirable Experience & Certifications:
  • Previous experience as a Senior or Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer.

  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior commissioning engineers.

As Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, you will take technical responsibility for the planning, execution and validation of mechanical commissioning activities across large-scale mission-critical construction projects.

You will oversee commissioning from initial readiness inspections through functional testing and integrated systems testing, ensuring all mechanical systems operate in accordance with design specifications, performance requirements and operational expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead mechanical commissioning activities across assigned data center projects.
  • Oversee Pre-Functional Checks, including Level 2 and Level 3 readiness inspections.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute Functional Performance Testing (FPT).
  • Support and lead mechanical activities during Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Validate cooling performance, mechanical redundancy, control sequences and system resilience.
  • Coordinate with electrical commissioning teams, controls specialists, OEMs and construction partners.
  • Identify, document and manage mechanical deficiencies through to resolution.
  • Review commissioning procedures, technical documentation, test reports and closeout packages.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and support the development of junior engineers.
  • Ensure commissioning activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project milestones.
  • Act as a key technical point of contact for clients, contractors and project stakeholders.

Salary & Benefits:
  • Base salary of $152,000 – $197,000, depending on experience.
  • Potential for higher compensation for exceptional candidates.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Travel expenses and per diem in accordance with company policy.
