About the Role

The Controls Technician IV is the most advanced level within the Controls Technician career path. This role requires mastery in system integration, advanced programming, and complex diagnostics, while also providing leadership in the field. The individual in this position not only performs hands-on technical work but also leads teams, oversees subcontractors, and ensures the successful delivery of large and complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute advanced controls programming, diagnostics, repair, and field commissioning.

  • Program and integrate Building Automation and Energy Management Controls, including Niagara AX/N4 and BACnet Advanced Application Controllers.

  • Provide expertise in HVAC systems, controls programming, start-up, and commissioning.

  • Oversee complex projects, coordinating both subcontractors and self-performed work.

  • Act as foreman on assigned projects, ensuring work is delivered on time and to a professional standard.

  • Mentor and support junior technicians and service staff to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

  • Conduct regular project reviews and manage closeout processes, including final documentation and customer satisfaction sign-off.

  • Monitor job costs and provide accurate projections for costs to complete.

  • Prepare and maintain professional project documentation and reporting.

  • Participate in weekly production meetings, providing timely updates to internal teams and leadership.

  • Maintain consistent communication with customers to identify needs, resolve issues, and ensure project goals are met.

  • Coordinate activities of subcontractors to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

  • Assist with preparation and processing of project plans, submittals, and O&M manuals.

  • Provide weekly project status updates to leadership.

  • Uphold and enforce established project delivery procedures, while recommending improvements when necessary.

  • Ensure all work is performed safely, effectively, and in compliance with standards.

  • Proactively identify and resolve project challenges through clear communication with stakeholders including customers, subcontractors, design professionals, and vendors.

About the Candidate

Qualifications
  • Certification in Niagara AX or Schneider EcoStruxure.

  • Proven proficiency in programming Niagara N4 and BACnet Advanced Application Controllers.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls integration.

  • Experience with IT computer networking as it relates to controls systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, supervise teams, and coordinate subcontractors.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and customer service skills.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
