About the Client

We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead estimating and preconstruction efforts from our clients headquarters, a well established General Contractor in Miami, FL. This role is responsible for overseeing the estimating function, managing preconstruction strategy, supervising estimating teams, and supporting competitive bids, GMPs, CMAR pursuits, and proposal development.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the estimating department, including team oversight, workload planning, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Oversee estimating efforts for commercial construction projects valued at $100K+.
  • Prepare, review, and approve conceptual estimates, detailed estimates, in-house budgets, GMPs, and final bid submissions.
  • Lead preconstruction strategy for competitive bids, negotiated work, GMP contracts, and CMAR delivery models.
  • Manage RFP/RFQ preparation, analysis, bid strategy, proposal support, and presentation development.
  • Review project documents, drawings, specifications, scopes, schedules, and contract requirements to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Supervise bid administration, subcontractor solicitation, scope leveling, pricing analysis, and final bid recommendations.
  • Support purchasing, negotiations, subcontractor selection, and value engineering efforts.
  • Partner with operations, business development, executives, owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors throughout the preconstruction process.
  • Ensure estimating information, assumptions, exclusions, qualifications, and pricing details are properly documented and communicated.
  • Lead internal estimate reviews, risk assessments, bid closeout meetings, and project turnover to operations.
  • Develop and maintain historical cost data, estimating standards, subcontractor/vendor databases, and market intelligence.
  • Provide leadership on construction methods, cost trends, procurement strategies, and alternative delivery approaches.
  • Support personnel management, training, department processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of estimating experience in the construction industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Preconstruction Director, Chief Estimator, or similar senior estimating leader in a General Contractor setting.
  • Proven experience supervising estimating or preconstruction teams of at least eight team members.
  • Prior experience working directly for a General Contractor required.
  • Experience with projects valued at $100K+.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP and CMAR contracting models preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in RFP/RFQ preparation and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of diverse construction methods, purchasing, negotiations, presentations, and personnel management.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple pursuits, deadlines, stakeholders, and priorities.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, construction management platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and related tools.
