About the Client

A New York based building envelope contractor specializing in custom windows, window wall systems, and terrace door solutions is seeking a Safety Director to lead health and safety across NYC construction operations. Projects span high-end residential, landmark restorations, and large-scale commercial developments throughout New York City.
 

This is a senior leadership role for a field-oriented safety professional who understands NYC DOB Chapter 33, OSHA 1926, and how to embed safety culture into real-world construction operations.

About the Role

Position Summary

The Safety Director will develop, implement, and oversee all company safety programs across active construction sites and manufacturing support operations. This individual will act as the company’s primary safety authority and regulatory liaison, ensuring best-in-class compliance, risk prevention, and continuous improvement.

This role requires strong presence in the field, the ability to influence operations leadership, and a proactive approach to safety planning, auditing, training, and investigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the company’s Health & Safety Program (silica, asbestos, lead, fall protection, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with NYC DOB Chapter 33 and OSHA 1926
  • Develop job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, and fall protection plans
  • Conduct site safety inspections, audits, and assessments
  • Oversee safety planning in preconstruction and active job phases
  • Lead accident/incident investigations and regulatory reporting
  • Serve as liaison with NYC DOB, OSHA, insurance carriers, and clients
  • Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and supervisor training
  • Maintain all safety documentation and jobsite records
  • Promote and lead an Incident & Injury Free safety culture
  • Support manufacturing operations with best-practice safety guidance
  • Administer fleet safety monitoring programs
  • Partner with HR on onboarding and ongoing compliance training

About the Candidate

Required Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 Construction
  • 40-Hour Site Safety Course Certificate
  • 62-Hour Supervisor SST Card
  • Valid driver’s license

Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years in construction safety management (minimum 2 in leadership)
  • Bilingual English / Spanish (required)
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 & NYC DOB Chapter 33
  • Experience writing safety policies and procedures
  • Accident investigation and regulatory reporting experience
  • Ability to read drawings and specs
  • Comfortable working in union environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills
