Journeyman Pipefitter

Installation of refrigeration systems following customer specifications, applicable building code and proper piping practices. Specifically doing work in large Supermarkets like HEB, Walmart and Trader Joes.

We are seeking experienced Journeyman Pipefitters with a strong background in commercial supermarket refrigeration. This role focuses on installing, piping, and servicing refrigeration systems for large grocery store projects using modern natural refrigerant systems, including CO? and R290.

This position is ideal for pipefitters who excel in copper brazing, blueprint reading, and refrigeration piping in active retail environments.

Key Responsibilities Refrigeration Piping & Installation

• Install, assemble, and modify commercial refrigeration piping systems for grocery stores and retail facilities
• Run refrigeration piping ranging from ¼ inch up to 4-1/8 inch
• Perform high-quality copper brazing (copper-to-copper and copper-to-steel), including nitrogen purging
• Install refrigeration lines for walk-in coolers, freezers, display cases, and rack systems

System Setup & Maintenance

• Assist with system pressure testing, evacuation, and startup
• Maintain proper refrigerant line installation and system integrity
• Support commissioning and troubleshooting of refrigeration systems
• Ensure refrigerant handling complies with EPA and environmental regulations

Blueprints & Coordination

• Read and interpret refrigeration blueprints, rack diagrams, and isometric drawings
• Coordinate with refrigeration technicians, electricians, and site leadership
• Assist with remodels, retrofits, and new store builds

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all jobsite safety protocols and company policies
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Adhere to federal, state, and local refrigeration and construction codes

Technical Skills

• Ability to read refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical blueprints
• Familiarity with CO? and R290 refrigeration systems
• Knowledge of refrigeration piping, valves, supports, and hangers
• Ability to use hand and power tools proficiently
• Understanding of jobsite safety standards

Tools & PPE

• Must have own tools
• Must provide own PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, boots, etc.)

Work Environment

• Active supermarket construction and remodel projects
• Work performed in mechanical rooms, rack rooms, and above-ceiling spaces
• Minimal supervision required — ability to work independently is critical
