HVAC Project Manage - Houston

Our client is an established mechanical contracting business delivering complex HVAC and mechanical projects across the commercial, medical, institutional, laboratory, and higher education sectors.

They are looking to strengthen their project management team with an experienced Senior Project Manager who can take full ownership of major mechanical projects from the point of estimating and buyout through to successful completion.

The business operates on projects ranging from approximately $3 million to $20 million+, offering an experienced Project Manager the opportunity to work on substantial and technically challenging projects.

As Senior Project Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the management and delivery of mechanical projects following estimating and buyout.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Taking overall ownership of assigned projects from buyout through completion.
• Managing subcontractors and coordinating their activities throughout the project.
• Maintaining regular correspondence with General Contractors, Engineers, Architects, and other project stakeholders.
• Preparing and maintaining detailed construction schedules.
• Monitoring project progress and evaluating percentage completion across all trades.
• Reviewing and managing submittals.
• Expediting equipment and materials to ensure projects remain on schedule.
• Preparing and managing monthly billings.
• Monitoring job costs and overall project financial performance.
• Tracking and managing change orders.
• Coordinating and overseeing piping, plumbing, and sheet metal supervisors.
• Ensuring mechanical installation work is properly coordinated and progressing in line with project requirements.
• Identifying potential issues, delays, and cost impacts and taking appropriate action.
• Maintaining strong communication between field teams, subcontractors, clients, engineers, and contractors.
• Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced mechanical Project Manager with 8–10+ years of experience working for a mechanical contractor.

You will have a strong background managing commercial, institutional, and hospital mechanical projects and will be confident overseeing projects involving complex HVAC systems, piping, sheet metal, and controls.

The successful candidate will have:

• 8–10+ years of Project Management experience with a mechanical contractor.
• Strong commercial, institutional, medical/hospital, laboratory, or higher education experience.
• Experience managing mechanical contracts valued at $3 million–$20 million or larger.
• Strong knowledge of different HVAC systems, particularly chilled water systems and their components.
• A solid working knowledge of piping, sheet metal, and controls.
• Plumbing knowledge or Project Management experience is a strong advantage.
• Strong computer skills and confidence using project management and construction software.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• The ability to manage multiple stakeholders, subcontractors, and project priorities.
• Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs, change orders, billing, and project progress.
• The confidence and experience to take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion.
