About the Client

My client is a leading commercial concrete contractor specializing in large-scale concrete packages for high-rise buildings. With a commitment to quality, safety, and innovation, we have established a strong reputation in the industry.

They are currently looking for a Formwork Engineer to brige the gap from technical to on-site application. This role involves applying advanced structural engineering principles, industry standards, and product knowledge to create safe, economical, and constructible designs.

You will be responsible for creating safe, efficient, and cost-effective designs for temporary structures that support concrete during its curing process.

About the Role

Formwork and Shoring System Design:

  • Develop detailed and optimized design solutions for various concrete structures (e.g., slabs, beams, columns, walls, bridges, foundations) utilizing a range of proprietary formwork and shoring systems.

  • Perform complex structural analysis and calculations to ensure the stability, strength, and safety of designs under various load conditions (concrete weight, live loads, wind loads, seismic loads, etc.).

  • Select appropriate formwork and shoring products and configurations based on project requirements, concrete pour sequences, site conditions, and economic considerations.

  • Design custom or advanced formwork/shoring components as needed for unique project challenges.

Drawing & Documentation Production:

  • Produce high-quality, clear, and constructible general arrangement, assembly, and detailed shop drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD 2D/3D, Revit, SolidWorks).

  • Generate accurate material lists (Bills of Materials - BOMs) for quotations, fabrication, and shipment, ensuring optimal material utilization.

  • Prepare professional design submittals, including calculation packages, technical specifications, and design reports for review by engineers of record and clients.

Technical Consultation & Support:

  • Provide expert technical guidance and support to sales teams, project managers, and clients regarding formwork and shoring solutions, product capabilities, and design feasibility.

  • Directly interface with customers to understand their specific project needs, challenges, and preferences, translating them into effective design solutions.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stamping engineers (Professional Engineers) to ensure designs comply with national, state, and local building codes, OSHA regulations, and engineering standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASCE).

  • Conduct job site visits to observe formwork/shoring implementation, troubleshoot issues, and provide on-site technical support.

Mentorship & Quality Assurance:

  • Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to junior Designers, Drafters, and Engineering Interns.

  • Review and approve drawings, calculations, and material lists prepared by junior team members, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards and project requirements.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of design standards, procedures, and best practices within the department.

Project Coordination & Management:

  • Manage the design schedule for assigned projects, ensuring designs are delivered on time to meet project deadlines.

  • Coordinate design efforts with other disciplines (e.g., structural, architectural, MEP) to ensure full integration and avoid clashes.

  • Identify potential design risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.

About the Candidate

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • A Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license is often highly preferred, particularly for roles involving stamping calculations or more complex structural analysis.

Experience:
  • Typically 5-8+ years of progressive experience in formwork design, falsework, shoring, or temporary works engineering within the construction industry.

  • Proven experience in designing with various proprietary formwork and shoring systems (e.g., Doka, Peri, RMD Kwikform, Ulma, etc.).

  • Experience managing multiple design projects simultaneously.
