Role Overview

We are looking for a commercially aware and organised Buyer with specific experience in the drylining and internal fit-out sector. The successful candidate will manage the procurement of materials, components, and subcontracts essential to drylining packages and will support project delivery teams to meet deadlines and cost targets.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Drylining Procurement:

    • Source and purchase a full range of drylining materials, including plasterboard, metal stud systems, insulation, fixings, sealants, beads, firestopping products, and associated sundries.

    • Liaise with manufacturers and specialist suppliers to ensure specification compliance (e.g., British Gypsum, Knauf, Siniat).

    • Ensure timely delivery of materials to site, aligned with construction programmes.

    • Track changes in drawings/specs and adjust material orders accordingly.

  • Subcontractor Procurement:

    • Assist in identifying and procuring labour-only subcontractors for drylining, taping & jointing, and suspended ceilings.

    • Support contract negotiations, ensuring subcontract agreements reflect scope, timeframes, and quality expectations.

    • Maintain a database of approved subcontractors and track performance and compliance (e.g., insurances, CSCS certification, SMSTS).

    • Commercial & Cost Control:

      • Obtain and assess multiple quotes to ensure best value across drylining materials and services.

      • Support quantity surveying team with pricing input for tenders and live projects.

      • Monitor material usage and wastage, flagging variances to project managers.

      • Seek and propose cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or programme.

      • Supplier & Relationship Management:

        • Build and maintain relationships with key drylining product suppliers and distributors.

        • Negotiate rebate agreements, delivery terms, and call-off arrangements to support site operations.

        • Resolve supplier disputes or delivery issues with urgency and professionalism.

        • Logistics & Site Coordination:

          • Plan and coordinate material deliveries to ensure alignment with site access and unloading restrictions.

          • Work with site managers to ensure that materials are delivered safely and on time to avoid disruption.

          • About the Candidate

            Qualifications and Experience

            • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction procurement, ideally within the drylining, interiors, or fit-out sector.

            • Strong understanding of drylining systems and components.

            • Excellent negotiation, planning, and communication skills.

            • Proficient in procurement software, MS Office, and construction documentation.

            • CIPS qualification or working towards it is desirable


            Key Competencies

            • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of drylining build-ups, fire/acoustic/wet area detailing, and material performance.

            • Attention to Detail: Accurately matching procurement to architectural drawings and project specs.

            • Commercial Acumen: Cost-conscious mindset with the ability to spot overspend or inefficiencies.

            • Problem-Solving: Quick thinking when addressing shortages, substitutions, or supplier issues.

            • Teamwork: Collaborative with site teams, project managers, and commercial staff.
