A leading national specialty contractor is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join its San Jose team. The company delivers large-scale drywall, carpentry, ceilings, and specialty interior/exterior systems across high-profile commercial projects including healthcare, high-rise residential, education, and entertainment sectors.

With over 60 years in the industry and a strong presence across the U.S., this is an opportunity to work alongside top-tier general contractors on technically complex, high-value projects.

This role is ideal for someone looking to grow into a Project Manager position within a structured, well-resourced environment.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in delivering multiple construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, and financial tracking
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and internal field teams
  • Track schedules and help drive project milestones
  • Attend client and site meetings, ensuring clear communication across teams
  • Assist with procurement and material logistics
  • Conduct site visits to align field progress with project plans

About the Candidate

Requirements

  • 1–4 years’ experience in construction (Project Engineer / APM / similar)
  • Experience or exposure to drywall, framing, ceilings, or building envelope scopes preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Basic understanding of construction financials and scheduling
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Procore or similar software is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience working with specialty subcontractors or interiors packages
  • Exposure to large-scale commercial or high-rise projects
  • Interest in long-term progression into Project Management
